WINDFORCE Baltic Sea Conference in Tallinn
February 2017 started with a special event for the offshore wind energy sector – the WINDFORCE Baltic Sea in Tallinn, Estonia. The two day conference focussed on the challenges for offshore wind energy in the Baltic Sea. After a warm welcome and introductory speech by the Minister of Economic Affairs, Kadri Simson, several wind energy associations gave valuable insights into the current state and the future potential of offshore wind energy development in the Baltic Sea. The presentations were followed by a lively discussion about the opportunities and challenges of the emerging offshore wind energy market in the Baltic Sea Region. On the second day the topics “Operation & Maintenance” and “Offshore Market & Grid Interconnection” were emphasised.
During the conference, Thilo Krupp from the German Offshore Wind Energy Foundation presented the Interreg project Baltic InteGrid and its objective to further integrate the European energy markets via a meshed offshore grid.
The conference will be held annually, each year to be hosted in another country of the Baltic Sea Region.
