On November 25th 2016, IKEM hosted the Policy & Regulation Conference of the Baltic InteGrid project in Berlin to advance the discussions on policy and regulatory obstacles towards a meshed offshore grid in the Baltic Sea. This topic forms one of the six Thematic Working Groups of the project.

The workshop participants, together with the present experts, examined the legal and regulatory contexts of participating countries in order to establish an inventory and a common base of understanding.  During a brainstorming session, participants discussed how to proceed in the analysis phase and how the transition phase can best address the issues at hand. Country specific briefings were given by project partners who underlined the legal and regulatory differences and commonalities, highlighting the challenges and opportunities for the transition.

Several stakeholders, including representatives from the legal, regulatory and industry sector such as DONG Energy, the German Offshore Wind Energy Foundation, the German Technical Inspection Agency (TÜV) as well as the Horizon 2020 project ‘PROMOTioN’ held presentations. They presented their perspectives including insights into the current state of offshore wind energy and the relevance of interconnectors for national, regional and European markets from a regulatory and legal perspective.

The partners identified several possible options for the analytical methodology and important issues to keep in mind.
